beth is...

Beth is... in the mood for chocolate.

Beth is... putting off doing her taxes.

Beth is... totally lacking inspiration for her daily picture.

Beth is... in awe of the fact that so many of her high school friends still live in her hometown and still hang out on a regular basis. It is like a parallel world that just continued on without me. I am jealous. Sort of.

Beth is... very happy with the path her life has taken.

Beth is... head over heals in love with her sexy husband and two beautiful girls.

Beth is... grateful for all the new friends she has made.

Beth is... going to watch Heroes tonight.

Beth is... making chicken chili for dinner tonight.

Beth is... horrified to discover that a spot in the butt/crotch area of her favorite black sweat pants is worn so thin that it is almost see through.

Beth is... an over sharer.

Beth is... in desperate need of a trip to the hair salon.

Beth is... concerned that Facebook has taught her to refer to herself in the third person.

the test

My baby girl, my youngest child, my last child has been spoiled.

She nursed until close to her second birthday.

I never had the heart to let her cry at night.

I choose not to fight battles with her that I would have fought with her older sister.

When I get involved in sibling disputes, it is almost always take her side.

"Share with your little sister."

"Don't trick your little sister."

All her life, I have coddled her, kissed her and held her close. I have savored every moment of the babyhood of my last baby.

But with two months to go until her third birthday, my baby girl is certainly no longer a baby. She is a feisty toddler. A toddler that is testing. A crayon drawing on the wall. A toy thrown across the room. A slap with her tiny hand followed by a mischievous glance up at me to see what I am going to do. She knows. She knows exactly what she is doing and she knows it is bad.

What else can I do? The time has come to really and truly start disciplining Claire. The sweet, beautiful girl that I may spoil, but don't want to be spoiled.

Sorry, baby.

my valentine

Last night I lay down on the couch, exhausted after a long day and several long nights.

A few minutes later, my husband came down stairs and started doing the dishes.

"Just leave them there and I will do them in the morning", I said

"We are a team," he replied

"Yes, but the kitchen is my thing and I will feel guilty laying here if you are doing dishes." After all, he gets up even earlier than I do and works all day.

"We are a team," he replied firmly, loading up the dishwasher and washing out the pans.

The truth is, my husband does the majority of the cleaning in this house. I pick up after the kids and do the occasional vacuuming, but he is the one who does the real cleaning. And the lawn mowing and snow blowing and garbage collecting and the fixing of broken things. He makes breakfast on Saturday morning and often dinner on Saturday night. Oh, and he is also the financial provider.

I do the majority of the cooking and the child care, the actual paying of the bills, the laundry, the shopping, the planning, the scheduling, the organizing of the house and the kid's activities.

Hum, how is it that my list is looking shorter than his?

But the bottom line is we are a team. I sleep in on Saturday, he sleeps in on Sunday. I put one girl to bed, he puts the other to bed. This is how our marriage works. This is how we survive a life filled with too many messes, not enough time, not enough sleep and two always beautiful but often infuriating little girls.

And while I cherish the memory of the romantic dinners, frequent trips and expensive presents that filled our pre kid days together, I can not imagine anything more perfect for me now than this life.

snow castles!

So, I had plans for today. Big plans. Plans that involved two tired girls taking nice long naps.

Then I realized it was sixty degrees outside. Sixty degrees. In New England. In February. This may not be a big deal to those of you down in Texas, but in New England in February, this is a very big deal.

In celebration, windows were opened and naps were canceled.

First, Claire and I found some puddles.

puddles!!

Then Abby got home from school. She wanted to put on a bathing suit, but settled for taking off her tights and running barefoot (and yes, she dressed herself today).

barefoot in feburary

Then since it was sixty degrees and the warm sun was shining, we dragged out the chalk and the bubbles and finally the beach toys.

digging in the snow

And then found some friends and built snow castles.

And then demolished snow castles.

Tomorrow is forcasted to be forty degrees and rainy. And windy.

Back to reality.

it's on the wall

"Mommy, what's so funny?"

"Daddy just wrote something funny."

"Where? Show me."

"It's on my wall."

"What??... Where??... Mommy you're weird."

*****

Yes, I finally gave in and joined Facebook. Yes, it is yet another online time sink. Yes, one of the first things it did was suggest I friend my high school boyfriend. Yes, I am putting off actual real life things I should be doing like filing my taxes and enrolling my daughter in Kindergarten to look at old pictures of people I am glad I lost touch with (no, of course I don't mean you).

And yes, it is kind of fun. You should totally join too. And then blog about it. Because that is what all the cool kids are doing.

Less than a day on Facebook and I am right back in high school.

i can't wait

In the car this morning on the way to school for yet another delayed start after yet another snow storm, the three girls in the back seat played a little game of I can't wait.

"I can't wait until it is warm again."

"I can't wait for water balloons!"

"I can't wait until we open our pool and our shed and everything."

"I can't wait for treats from the ice cream truck!"

"I can't wait to just be warm, even really warm. Even really hot."

Yes, we have officially reached that point. The point when everyone says enough already. Enough snow. Enough colds. Enough days stuck inside. Enough darkness. Enough.

And me? I can't wait to get outside with my new camera. We are enjoying a lovely honeymoon, my D90 and I, but there are only so many things to photograph inside. Well okay, there are actually about 200 things a day to photograph inside, if anyone is counting. But still, the outdoors. The green grass. Sunlight. The beach. Oh, the glorious possibilities.

But for now, we have sundresses indoors...

... and fifty or so cupcake eating shoots. Thrilling, no?

In addition to my D90, I am also loving my new gold reflector which is responsible for the warm, sun like look in the first two pictures above. Guess it will have to do until we get more of the real thing.
